The Energy Star® program promotes residential energy efficiency because household energy use contributes to air pollution. An appliance receives the Energy Star® rating if it’s significantly more energy efficient than the minimum government standards. Furnaces
Most major furnace manufacturers have signed agreements with Energy Star® to produce and promote high-efficiency. While a 15-year-old furnace may be only 60% efficient, a new high-efficiency furnace is at least 90% efficient and costs much less to operate.

Energy Star® air conditioners are 20 percent more efficient than ones currently meeting government standards. More efficient equipment helps you save money on your energy bills, and helps utilities reduce peak demand.
